Ready.. set... don't look at the photographer!!

Ready guys?? Xun.. pay attention to the game not the camera!~!~ Posted by Hello

to the Mud pitt we will go...

Today's the annual volleyball + mud + UB community + friends + somewhat chilly weather = Oozfestat at UB... though it was sprinkling rain throughout the day... I think it adds to the already cold, wet, muddy theme. Yours truly was not signed up for some mud time this year, but... I was the official cheerleader/photographer for the GSA team! Needless to say... I was squeaky clean the entire time! Posted by Hello

more from Hitchhiker...

Alan Rickman who does Professor Snape in Harry Potter is the voice for Marvin... a manic depressive robot... who is soooo cute!!! Ollie... you promised me a Marvin... I expect a Marvin!!~!~ Posted by Hello

off to a galaxy... far far away....

It's Friday night... and another happy hour at the Steer again... after that... off to the movies... a must see for everyone... the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I absolutely adore Martin Freeman... remember him in Love Actually.. the guy in the nude scenes who was such a gentlemen (there's a sentence you don't hear a lot!)... warming up his hands before placing them on her *insert bodypart here* and he appeared briefly in Shaun of the Dead. As Arthur Dent, the new hitchhiker-to-be.... he was brilliant... robe, towel and all.. you gotta see to movie to understand :P Posted by Hello

Rushdie in UB

Salman Rushdie was in UB tonight... part of the Distinguished Speaker Series for this academic year. At about 6pm, before his scheduled lecture in Alumni Arena at 8:00 pm, there was a small reception for some of us V.I.P guests (a big thanks to Steve, Shaokang and the rest of the GSA for the invite!) at the Marriott Hotel. I was excited to meet him, imagine that... briliant, controversial writer with a deadly fatwa (a legal opinion or ruling issued by an Islamic scholar) placed upon him more than a decade ago & being one of the significant novelist in the reception scene in Bridget Jones's Diary. We got pictures taken with him by a professional photographer... which reminds me... I had better find out how to get my hands on a copy of that. Oy to Ollie... don't forget... we want that picture!!

Meanwhile.... here's an attempt of a decent picture of Rushdie from my camera during his lecture... I wondered why didn't I take close up pictures when I met him earlier at the reception?? Well, I had a drink in one hand and a plate of strawberries on the other... I could not have possibly put the drink down let alone the strawberries going to waste!! Gimme another pair of hands and maybe I could have gotten more pictures... anyway, Mr. Rushdie was whisked around the room by the event coordinator and photographer :P

Mr. Rushdie's lecture was inspiring... he was great... lots of laughs among the crowd and amidst all that laughter.. throw in a couple of bits of critical thoughts. He portrayed a very comical side of himself... shared some of his earlier works which were very funny. One of my favourite moments from his lecture was taken from one of his books, The Moor's Last Sigh which he considered as an accomplishment to have even penned down a love scene. Managed to also nicked a couple of autographed books of Rushdie; Midnight's Children, The Moor's Last Sigh and Haroun and the Sea of Stories. My summer reading list... not forgetting ofcourse, the 6th installment of Harry Potter!! Posted by Hello

Got tickets!!~

Today was ticket presales for Michael Bublé's 2005 tour... and I just had to be the first to get my hands on tickets for his concert. Since I missed getting good tickets for the concert to be held at the Hummingbird Centre - Toronto (Think about it... Bublé and Dim Sum in one trip?!) , I thought maybe I would go to the one at Mohegan Sun - CT (Claire would have loved to go to this one since it's so close to her.. sorry, not heading there now :P ), or even the one to be scheduled at Beacon Theatre - NYC (A reason to head to the city and go see dear Jerry!)... luckily, they added more concerts in more cities and Buffalo is on the list!! Could not have been happier with the tour schedule... 8:00p.m., Sunday - July 10th, Shea's Performing Arts Center... come faster!! Posted by Hello

From the STAR newspaper - April 22nd, 2005
(Not yet updated online on the STAR website as I am posting this piece - I beat the news Eastern Standard Time)

My dear sister, Sharon... Mount Holyoke College alumnae... is in the news!! We are so PROUD of YOU!! HHmmm... not so sure I like the BRAINY part of the article title :P "DOUBLEY" PROUD OF YOU!!! I wonder who took that lovely picture of Sharon at graduation?? ME!!!

Thanks to Uncle Dale who reads the Star paper early in the morning... ... thanks to Uncle Jimmy who scanned the newspaper cutting and thanks to DAD who emailed it to me.

On another note... the writer of the article did not in any way asked for permission to use Sharon's picture (*ahem.. copyrights reserved Sherene Cheah) nor the use of her name. Seeing that her name was used for this publicity stint by the school, we think that it should be clear that we do not in any way endorse it.Posted by Hello
