Rain... rain.. go aWaY!

It's been raining.. most of last week, the entire last weekend and the forecast for this entire week.. more rain. So gloomy... no sunshine to inspire me to do things that I would normally do. Think this is what bears feel like this time... nothing - hibernation.

The girls and I were over in Rochester this past weekend to celebrate Mario's 55th birthday... will be posting up pictures from in later. Later as in after I actually post up some from Sylvia & Jeff's wedding. Speaking of which, they just got back from their honeymoon in the Caribbean - got pictures already :P

Avast!~

This special entry is dedicated to Laurence@Bahamut Zero Posted by Picasa

Laurence and I some how got talking about all things pirate... and upon that, he sent me this link. I think any pirates fan should get their hands on one of these for themselves!~

Batty-batty- bats...

After work yesterday... I had to rush to Best Buy and Target to see if I can change the color on my new cellphone (Sanyo MM8300) and have it activated. No luck getting the red unit so I stuck with blue.

Headed back to campus to the Student Union - Mary, Yan and I decided to catch the 6:00 p.m. movie. We just had to stop thinking about our classes and treat ourselves to a break in the middle of the week. We didn't have to pay anything since it is free to all students and they usually show a fairly recent blockbuster movie every week and this week was Batman.

Did not manage to catch Batman when it was released. Reason... involved in too many summer activities. The movie was good... lotsa action and moving about. It;s still showing for the rest of this week... 2 shows per night - go see it if you haven't. Free popcorn!

Girls day out...

It's been a while since Chele and I had a real girly-girly day... so after Wei Chien's short stopover (he drove from Phillie to spend UB's homecoming weekend with friends and to be at the Bill's game tomorrow) in the morning to pick up Wei Loon's laptop and golf bag... the two of us headed out for a little self-indulgence/pampering. 1st stop... nail salon. Scotty got me a gift certificate at one of his friend's salon and we decided to head there. Both Chele and I got french manicures done - thanks Scotty for the gift!!

Next, we headed to the mall... it's getting a wee bit crowdy in there seeing that the weather has officially started and remained cool, people are moving themselves indoors. The temperature these couple of days is about 40s. In addition to that, it's the Columbus weekend sale - so lotsa people at the mall. Did some shopping - got another pair of gauchos, sale at Victoria's Secrets, and a must stop at the Lancome booth at Kaufmann's. Free gift with purchase - yippie!

Starving at this point... lazy to cook - to the Old Country Buffet we went. It's one of the closest things by the mall without waiting for a table and our orders. Now that our tummy is filled, we moved on to out last stop, to the new renovated Chinese super-grocery store. I needed to stock up with "roti canai/prata" and some thai green curry paste.

When we finally got home... silly stuff we did... girly-silly I might add. Chele and I went through all our make-up kits and decided to go drastic-experimental on ourselves. We wanted to take a couple of snapshots of silly faces to put up on the wall and we did just that.

Cinderelly...

There was a birthday party over at Sharon and her housemate Wnyx's last evening and of course, Chele and I were there to partake in an evening of gastronomical feast. We brought dessert - Belgium cream puffs and chocolate eclairs. Pictures would be posted at a later time... it's all on Sharon's camera :P

Chele and I left earlier than the rest of the party... we were gonna call it an early night... not really, we wanted a more of a relaxing night. We piled on my bed and put on an old classic - Disney's Cinderella. The special Platinum Edition was just released from the Disney's archives vault on Tuesday and we just had to get it!

So people... start Bibbidi Bobbidi Do!~!

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

What a treat tonight for us girls.... you've gotta go see Burton's Corpse Bride. A love story of a young man Victor (Johnny Depp), who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride - Emily (Helena Bonham-Carter), while his real bride, Victoria (Emily Watson), waits berefit in the land of the living - so the synopsis reads on the website.

The soundtrack is pretty cool too... thanks to Danny Elfman - master composer and contributor to a great number of movies and tv shows!! Here's a clip of the trailer... (*make sure you stop the music on my webpage first to view the trailer!)

Fall is here...

It is here.... the first day of Fall/Autumn... summer has indeed come and gone... the leaves are about to change its colors, the weather is dropping lower and the sun is setting earlier and earlier. Pumpkins are out for sale and cider are sold at every corner mom & pops stores as well as grocery giants by the gallons while cornucopias are adorning desks, doors and homes. How time flies...

The week so far...

Since my very very last posting... a lotta things have been going on. Juggling classes, work, meetings and weekend getaways...

Over the weekend, Chele, Pete and I drove up to Yorkdale over at Sylvia and Jeff's place. We met up with Uncle and Auntie Lim and shared a dimsum breakfast. After that... the three of us met up with Pete's friends who also drove up to Toronto from Rochester. This trip was planned by Pete (interfered a bit by myself) so that he can feast big on Malaysian food at Matahari. Before we sat down for dinner we were at the Ontario Science Center and walked around the city.

Here are some pictures from Toronto over the weekend...

DSCN0315 DSCN0314
We were walking all around Toronto... Chele used to say how we would go here and there in our car but never walked much.. and so we did... walked all over the city passing through Chinatown, financial district, theater district and saw movie crews moving about as it was the ending weekend of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Lookie me with my eyes closed... and Chele grinning big!

DSCN0319 DSCN0305
While Matt and Hye Yon are busy with something... Eli and Pete walked on. And then there's the super poses with Eric and Eli. Poor Hye Yon stucked in the middle trying to justify both guys in the superman poses.

Comparative High Edu. Party

My advisor Dr. Johnstone who is also the Director for UB's Center for Comparative and Global Studies In Education organized a party for us Comparative High Ed. lot at his lovely house by the Buffalo Waterfront earlier this evening. Here are some pictures from the party.

DSCN0188 DSCN0187
We had the party out on the deck overlooking the waterfront and part of the marina. It was a beautiful day to be outside. Ooohh... and good news for Buffalonians and Buffalo Bill's fans - the Bills beat the Texans 22-7 in their first home opener/game for the season!!

Panzica's in town...

Spent a lazy morning lounging around the house today. It's not until I got a call from Uncle Dan that he was in town and Owen will be arriving in Buffalo from Phoenix in a few hours. The plan - to meet up at Anchor Bar (original birth place of the famous Buffalo wings) for dinner.

The girls and I were looking forward to seeing the Panzica's. I haven't seen Dan since he and Auntie Barbara stopped by last fall for a short visit. The girls on the other hand last saw them over Spring Break when they were over at their place in Scottsdale, AZ. I have not seen Owen.. hmm... I think almost 2 years now since we last met 2 Christmases ago. He's grown a lot and is bigger built than what I last remembered. We were reminiscing about the parties I used to bring him along when I was living with them in Austin, TX.

DSCN0178
Dan and Owen are in town to visit family and to be at the Bill's Home opener today (the game starts at 1 p.m.). Aunt Barb was not on this trip - she had to stay up since she had to work and as for Elizabeth, she is at school in L.A. We also met up with Dan's mom, Bobbie and sister Laurie. Chele and I used to help out Bobbie and volunteered as ushers at Shea's Performing Arts Center on Saturday evenings where Bobbie is still the usher captain.

DSCN0176 DSCN0177
Dan's birthday is coming up - September 15th and we got him an early brithday gift. Mom already reminded me of Uncle Dan's birthday last week and we got his gift to him extra early this year. Happy Birthday Dan!~!

Wojtek's party

Wojtek (pronounced Voy-tek) had a party on Friday evening over at his new place, Sweethome Village and we were celebrating his birthday and a back to school get together. Wojtek's birthday was on the 6th of September and he is a quarter century old of 25. Unfortunately, forgetful me :( forgot that I had the camera with me the entire evening and only managed to snap a few pictures for the night.

DSCN0171 DSCN0174
Look at Wojtek looking "fondly" at the camera... you look so adorable! (so the girls say...) and then there's him with Sharon and Chele. Watch out behind you there Wojtek.. we don't want you falling into the pool!
